As we know already, St. Vincent does sorrowful remarkably well, and Happy Birthday, Johnny, New York and Smoking Section (‘sometimes I feel like an inland ocean’ is an incredible line) are sombre, cathartic numbers which almost inevitably stand out as highlights of Masseduction.

However, the real shining stars here are the ambient dream-pop tracks, sometimes leaning into disco anthems and then journeying back to jittery, futuristic electro-pop. Fear The Future is so powerful that for a second I thought I might be able to shapeshift.

Surely the hope with any album is that it’s even better than the one before, and Annie Clark (along with a whole host of impressive guests) has done it again.
