Stunning Luxury is the sophomore record from East London’s Snapped Ankles. Famed for their esoteric set of influences and wild live shows, Stunning Luxury is, in many respects, a surprisingly current and present record. The music is more playful than previously, recalling Stereolab at their most irreverent (I’d also be very surprised if the band don’t own a couple of copies of Winchester Cathedral and Walking With Thee between them).

Pestisound (Moving Out) spits and snarls a diatribe at gentrification. Skirmish In The Suburbs sounds like a lost William Orbit classic fed through a blender, its shades of 90’s electronica nostalgia given a sinister edge. Three Steps To Development is a wonderfully silly, tongue-in-cheek meditation on self-improvement. It’s a funny, sharp, timely record that you can cut rug to, and that it itself should be held up as a really great thing.
