Lee Hammond discovers a superb release from the post-punk trio
FatCat Records
Released: 07.02.20
This is an album which builds upon Shopping’s already stellar reputation, and does so in emphatic fashion. Moulding disco grooves around urgent post-punk, with an effortless ease. For Your Pleasure and Body Clock stand out for this reason, the latter possessing an unrelenting enthusiasm and level of funk which is briefly seen in other tracks.
However, the underlying tracks are the mere bedrock for the poignant lyrics, Initiative is about confronting someone who is all too willing to stand back. Whereas About You feels much more introverted and self-reflecting, it’s an album which grabs your attention. Whether that be through its hooks or it’s all too relatable lyrics. All or Nothing is Shopping at their absolute best.
