Robin Webb discovers a multi-lingual delight from the heavy punk band
PNKSLM Recordings
Released: 24.01.20
The heavy punk act with a delightful moniker, ShitKid release what is essentially an EP of four tracks extended to eight by singing the same tunes in Swedish rather than English. Whilst it is somewhat interesting to hear those tracks and how they differ harmonically there’s no denying Åsa Söderqvist can kick some serious butt in both languages.
There’s some prestigious backing from grunge punk luminaries such as Paul Leary of the Butthole Surfers, Josh Freese from Devo and the Melvins, which results in a fuller, heavier sonic beast and distinctly less experimental than some of ShitKid’s previous output. Physical formats come with two front covers with Åsa and Lina Molarin Eriksson sporting good ol’ USA bikinis and traditional Nordic outfits with corpse paint.
