Jade Mia Broadhead reviews the first release from the Minneapolis trio in 22 years
Released: 03.11.23
The Minneapolis three-piece’s first LP in 22 years wears its influences on its plaid shirtsleeves. Little Bit Of Sun is Tom Petty’s Leaning To Fall in melody and feel and The Rope continues the heartland vibes. Don’t Fade Away is full of the joys of summer and the Beach Boys are only ever a wave away, especially on the sun-soaked psychedelia of If You Say So.
As famous for writing songs for others – Grammy wins with Adele and The Chicks – Semisonic’s Dan Wilson was always the everyman of the Minneapolis scene and if this record lacks something, it’s that it’s all a little too nice and pedestrian. But in a cold, cynical world, why not let a little bit of sun in?
