Paul Brown reviews the accomplished solo record from Rebecca Taylor

Rebecca Taylor’s stunning voice and magnetic presence always helped Slow Club to stand out as a band. In her decade plus as half of the under-appreciated duo, she developed enormously as a performer, to the point that her morphing into Self Esteem for a solo record of all-out bangers feels like a perfectly logical next step.
Compliments Please is a vibrant album on which it is patently obvious Taylor is enjoying doing things entirely her own way. She’s not the only one having fun here, though, because there’s a lot to like about this, from the stuttering apology of The Best to the effortless cool of Rollout. This is an accomplished piece of work from a burgeoning pop star.
