The solo debut of Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis is a serenely self-assured, empowering foray into poppier territory, ditching the guitars for a laptop.

Though riot grrrl is clearly an inspiration for Dupuis, she doesn’t need histrionics to convey her message; there’s a knowing barb in her wise, witty lyrics. Get A Yes is an ode to consent in the male dominated ‘you know you want it’ misogynistic pop world, wrapped in crystalline R’n’B beats. <2 is skittering and soporific, led by Dupuis’ honeyed vocals while Line Up and Hype are sassy grungy riots that steer back into Speedy territory.

A confidently executed record that addresses the real issues women face whilst still being a fun, irresistible listen.
