Wrong Speed Records

Released: 15.04.22

Among the many great things Wrong Speed Records has done for the world in its fairly brief existence is bring Reigns back into our world, first with 2020’s magnificent The Walled Garden and now with Tollinghurst, a chilling and bewitching investigation into the life of artist and mystic Edith Tollinghurst, whose storied dabbling with the tarot led to her inadvertent fiery demise.

Still operating in a vaguely hauntological area both musically and conceptually (Pye Corner Audio and the Ghost Box stable are fellow travellers), they’ve gone a little harder on some of the beats and tempos this time without losing the quiet unease of previous Reigns records, and closer The Queen In Yellow is a haunting, unsettling gem that stays with you long after the fragile melody fades.
