Purity Ring’s first album Shrines was a sleeper electro album filled dually with charm and dark themes. Another Eternity doesn’t step too far out of this mould, combining sweeping synth melodies and expert drum work at the forefront of most of the tracks on offer. What is different is a distinctive lack of claustrophobia; Megan James’ sweet girlish vocals no longer sound trapped by the futuristic electronics around her and so most of Another Eternity sounds expansive and open. Underneath it all though lies the dark heart that underpinned most of Shrines, presented in lyrical body horror and uncomfortable scenes. It prevents the album from being a slightly wishy-washy utopian vision, and is all the better for it.
