It can’t be long until Part Chimp’s Tim Cedar gets knighted for his services to ‘noise rock’, and this first in album 8 years is even better than I hoped. It’s no radical departure from the established Chimp sound, occupying a sweet spot between garage punk, stoner metal and the Butthole Surfers, but the band are on terrific form and the whole album is a righteous fucking blast.

Opener Namekuji starts with a menacing piano figure before lurching into a downtuned riff that could make grown men weep with joy, MapoLeon is a scuzzy banger, The Saturn Superstition is pure Seattle filth. I could go on… You’ve gotta love Tim Cedar: not all heroes wear capes.
