This quartet may reside in the home of country music, Nashville, Tennessee, but their music has more in common with the poppier end of 80s goth. Forget line dancing, this is music to stomp back and forth with carefree abandon. With a vocalist sounding like David Bowie and a band that draws comparison with The Mission with more than a hint of Blancmange, Palm Ghosts will fit in well on European festival billings. They describe themselves as “the sound of an 80s prom in a war zone” and this particular collection is nearer a prom on that particular spectrum.

Emotive, and at times confrontational, lyrics over swirling keyboards, urgent guitars and strong punchy rhythms, this a vibrant release.
