You’re in the vortex now” is the first line on London duo Nova Twins‘ debut album Who Are The Girls? – it’s a perfectly apt introduction. Often an aggressive, no-holds-barred blast of garage punk filled with screeching, sludgy guitars and snarling vocals, it’s a high octane blast that hits hard and is unapologetic about its approach (Lose Your Head defiantly repeats the line “fuck your clique“).

Yet although their approach is relatively minimal, they also nod to some of the diverse range of artists that have influenced them, with occasional R&B inflections. There’s little room to catch a breath (only the woozy Ivory Tower provides a temporary reprieve) but for the most part Who Are The Girls? is a frenetic maelstrom.
