Robin Webb reviews the sublime concept album from Ben Hall
Bingo Records
Released: 25.10.19
Alien abduction renders shrinking violet into one-night disco wonder, this concept album is set in the slowly decaying suburbs of Sheffield in the late 70s and makes for a superbly surreal indie bedroom recorded album. And breathe…
Ben Hall, the genius behind Mr Ben & The Bens, is the brainchild responsible for this lush expression of urbanite flowering and delightful pop melancholy. It places Mr Ben right at the forefront of individual Northern creative talents producing work of real worth.
Previously championed by Mark Riley, Ben Hall plays all the instruments apart from drums and co-wrote the album with Bingo Records label head Lloyd Bent. The cover art features drummer Zac Barfoot sporting spandex and an alien head, perfectly illustrating this great record.
