Considering that the band reportedly “barely spent any time” collaborating in the same room together, the more-than-super supergroup Minor Victories have produced a truly stunning body of work with their self-titled debut.

Drifting from Krautrock-esque ominous synth lines to luscious swooping string sections in an instant, this record is a punchy and poignant concoction of the better known work of each band member.

As predicted, the driving force of the album is Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai), and the way his raucous yet unblemished guitar playing compliments the dainty, dreamlike vocals of Rachel Goswell (Slowdive).

This combination, paired with the haunting and poignant guest appearances of James Graham (The Twilight Sad) and Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon), makes for a truly impeccable albeit heart-wrenching listen.
