Coming almost exactly a year on from Formentera, this surprise addition of songs makes the entirety feel far more complete. Formentera II showcases a band at the height of their songwriting powers, whether that’s the ‘regret disco’ of Just The Once, the relaxed dreaming of Who Would You Be For Me and the melodic spaced rock of Nothing Is Perfect, there’s a casual ease on display with Emily Haines voice and lyrics given space to breathe.

The lack of theme or style does upset the album’s flow at times, but cherry-picking genres is something Metric have earned in a career spanning twenty years. Metric are Metric and they’ll make themselves happy first rather than aim for being flavour of the month.
