Membranes’ monument of hope and glory hits you like a sledgehammer and when you get up it hits you some more. It’s not just that jackhammer bass, the calling card of John Robb driving you deeper, but the Gatling gun guitar and the rattling, snarling and sinister whispered vocal.

This is the post-post-punk epic that takes on the baton from Joy Division, and paints horrendous yet heroic sonic pictures of Bosch or Breugal scale and vision. The 20-piece BIMM Choir cut in like sun rays bursting through the belching smoke of 100 trumped up climate change denying engines. With cameos from Kirk Brandon and the great Chris Packham, it’s a dark Hollywood silver scream epic of almost dizzying euphoria.

Membranes’ mother nature has blown me away.
