Francoise Harvey reviews the new release from the Spanish indie pop quartet
Trouble In Mind
Released: 08.05.20
Dias Raros is the second album from Spanish indie pop quartet Melenas, and the first to be released by a label outside Spain. The first few songs are so much dreamy-voiced garage rock – they’re serviceable, but don’t really take off.
It’s from track five, yearning ballad El Tiempo ha Pasado, that the album really takes off. The song gave my heart a gentle pummelling even though I don’t understand the lyrics (I wish I did). And the next song, Los Alemenas, immediately shakes off the melancholy with its galloping beat, carrying us into a more confident, more experimental second half, one I’ll happily listen to on repeat. Final track, Vals, is a perfect ending: a dreamy 60s-esque waltz, signalling the end of the night.
