The South Shields’ musician’s new EP is full of delightfully squidgy lo-fi electronica, writes Steve Spithray

More in keeping with the ethos of the ex-Railway Club man’s more recent Harbourmaster alias, South Shields-based Martin Francis Trollope‘s open bracket close bracket EP is delightfully squidgy lo-fi electronica.
(column of air) is a sparse aural experiment dipping in and out of drones and a layered house motif that is gently endearing, if frustratingly short. The change of pace and delayed vocal on (please) has more of a shoegaze vibe, but the simple looping keyboard sample at the fore keeps things upbeat. It’s on closer (control) where Martin’s ability to create an eerie cacophony really shines, juxtaposed with the off-kilter Korg effects and backwards vocals. More of this please.
