Reliably informed

Released: 07.06.24

On 7th June we are blessed with a fresh and soul-bearing Marina Allen record, a patchwork of alt. folk and Americana songs bringing together themes of the past, hope, ancestry and discovery. Allen’s words are soft and thoughtful, often with a graphic edge that cuts deeply when paired with her timeless voice (which flourishes in this album).

The record grasps tough subjects and tears them open, as opposed to skirting around them, and there is a real sense of truth and dynamism in the lyrical craft. The production from Chris Cohen is gentle yet surprising, and feels like a compliment to the songwriting. Eight Pointed Star is a scrapbook of light and dark spots, but all of them are powerful.
