Don’t be fooled by the none-more-mindless moniker – the last thing you could accuse this Wrexham quartet of is lacking ideas. In fact, Yn Ol I Annwyn – the third act in a trilogy following 2015’s Noeth Ac Anoeth and 2017’s Y Proffwyd Dwyll – frequently suffocates under the weight of its own design, bloating core doses of doom with everything from folk instrumentation to prog passages and spacey synths.

Anomalous sparks aside, the result is a lumpen hodgepodge where cumbersome riffs plod aimlessly and songs meander within 60 seconds – not ideal when some stretch beyond the 13-minute mark. With Jessica Ball’s vocal wafting ineffectually throughout, MWWB could perhaps use a factory reset before embarking on their next odyssey.
