Robin Webb discovers a complicated but interesting release from the Peruvian-born producer

Peruvian born, London and LA producer M. Caye Castagnetto constructs collages of vocals, samples and instrumentations with contributions from musicians and artists like Beatrice Dillon and Aileen Bryant. The album has taken about five years to shape. Occasional Latin rhythms juxtapose almost pagan folk dirges and new wave guitar forming a seemingly complicated mass of parts that fit at awkward angles but have form and pattern.
Comparisons with Nico and even in places the Velvets themselves are not unfounded, but that’s fleeting as tunes develop, their swerving path never existing in one position but remaining a procession of bits and pieces marching out of step but definitely going in one direction. It’s not a difficult listen, just complicated in an interesting way.
