Whilst 2012’s promising debut, Like I Used To, was very much the sound of a songwriter still trying to find her own way, it is abundantly clear within three songs of her sophomore record that Work It Out is the successful result of that search. Finding the perfect blend of folk introspection and pop sensibilities, Lucy Rose sounds more confident with a full band behind her, and it has produced a more accessible sound. For You is a brilliant opener and sets the tone, building a momentum that is never lost throughout the record. Our Eyes and Koln will have the summer festival crowds dancing in the mud, whilst She’ll Move is the best song The xx haven’t written.
