Jonathan Coll discovers Little Man Tate have stuck to their indie rock roots on their new album
Released: 17.11.23
Sheffield’s Little Man Tate were one of the plethora of indie rock bands that came to epitomise the late noughties. For my money they were one of the more enjoyable ones and, leaving aside the warm glow of nostalgia, their new album is fantastic.
Given that the second best band in Sheffield decided to lean into intergalactic lounge music, there’s something refreshing about LMT sticking to their roots. Cheap Stolen Kisses is an opener lifted straight from that bygone era, and that’s no bad thing. The whole album is an enormous amount of fun, with lead single Undercover Lovers being the highlight. Huge guitar riffs and lyrics about nicking your mate’s girlfriend; it feels like Jon Windle has never been away.
