Stephen Oliver discovers an album of joyful ska punk from the masters of the genre
Pure Noise Records
Released: 11.12.20
This may be a release on a new label with a new drummer, but Less Than Jake have no plans to deviate widely from their joyful upbeat ska punk formula. As the album’s title suggests, the band are on the search for silver linings as their high tempo vocal and guitar delivery runs parallel to the uplifting brass arrangements.
This is unpretentious party music from a band that knows its audience and delivers on the promises made. The real mastery here is to transfer the energetic onslaught of the live experience to the more polished studio record – no mean feat in itself, and something many bands have failed to achieve in the past. It has been well worth the wait to hear this release.
