Every now and again up pops a harmless little band with a handful of jauntily observational tunes – Allo Darlin’, Nizlopi – that’s impossible to dislike yet equally inconceivable to respect. Legends Of Country are just such a group. At its best, Talk About Country comes off as Pulp playing the Grand Ole Opry; at its worst it’s just a load of in-joke pop culture references set to the Dukes Of Hazzard soundtrack. Actually, when you put it like that it doesn’t sound too bad. This is meta-music – music about music – and while Jof Owen clearly cares for his subject matter, to enjoy this you really need to be in a childlike state of mind. Or a child.
