Stephen Oliver discovers a harmonious collection of tracks on Larkin Poe’s new release

The Lovell sisters Rebecca and Megan fuse numerous rock roots together in this very satisfying harmonious collection of songs on Larkin Poe’s new album. Once again they have self-produced the album and clearly have an ear for country blues. Rebecca’s sultry vocals flicks across the combination of distorted guitar and lapsteel guitars on God Moves On The Water in wonderful dulcet tones.
The album knows how to rock out too and Scorpion enjoys a big sound as the guitar licks dart across the chugging riff. This is how vibrant contemporary blues should sound: proud and heartfelt rather than whispering and apologetic. They have captured a polished euphonious live sound with underlying grit. Lyrically the message is positive – we will get to the other side, and right now I needed that.
