Jonathan Richards has been a key figure in several excellent underground outfits over the years, not least his stint in Hey Colossus which saw them embrace melody alongside their glorious sludge (his role in their astonishing In Black & Gold and Radio Static High albums is fundamental).

But he’s now concentrating on his own Kreol Lovecall project, a one-man ‘vision thing’ recorded entirely alone and on his own terms. And it’s a wonderful record: the music is often minimal but tautly funky and manages to sound bright and melancholy all at once, while the words are those of a clearly thoughtful man by turns frustrated and furious about the world around him, presented with a quiet, dignified anger. An excellent debut.
