Childlike absurdist avant-garde, hinting at Nico, this is their second album and a debut on the renowned Drag City label. The off-beat San Francisco band Kamikaze Palm Tree claim their tunes make no sense and have no meaning, saying themselves: “none of the songs are about anything”. It’s post rock but then again it isn’t, harkening back to Beefheart instrumentally, but with an airiness and modernity that sets it very much apart and could be a difficult sell to a less discerning ear.

Its disparate parts come together in the track West Side Syncopated, all the ‘other’ shapes fitting bizarrely into a square whole. This is definitely for you if you like your post-rock with a dissonant strangeness about it.
