Jenny Hval presents an intense and charismatic release that could have you sleeping with the lights on for weeks. Blending vampire lore, horror tropes and a musical treatise on menstruation; Blood Bitch is a highly intimate yet expansive attempt that’s worthy of both your initial attention and repeated play. Earlier songs switch between minimal drones and crystalline synths that soundtrack Hval’s haunting, folky voice before cranking up the unease with the feral scratchings of Untamed Region.

Treading the line between darkness and light and that space between prose and poetry; it’s both challenging and comforting at once.  As Hval croons on Period Piece, “Don’t be afraid, it’s only blood.”
