Everyone in the alternative scene knows how good a guitarist J Mascis is but he’s occasionally been accused of letting fretwork histrionics rule. Not so on this wonderful collection of finely crafted up-tempo pop songs like Give It Off and See You At The Movies, which are up there with the most accessible music of his career.

The funky riffing of Cut Stranger could be straight off Dinosaur Jr’s Green Mind, whilst I Went Dust is the kind of Neil Young-esque acoustic ballad turned all-out guitar solo that we might expect. These solos compliment the song rather than become it and in 2018 it’s great to hear tunes like Everything She Said form such an uplifting positive album.
