1998 single Iris saw Goo Goo Dolls catapulted from having aspirations to be The Replacements to being Bon Jovi-lite and the desire to reproduce that success is evident throughout this big production record, from glossy opening track Indestructible through to a title track that’s more reminiscent of the Backstreet Boys than alternative rock.

It’s when the Buffalo boys use a little refrain that just about saves this record, the back-to-basics acoustic of Over You and the poppy yet poignant Money Fame And Fortune being highlights. The drum machine and guitar hooks of the epic Lights proves the band can still rock, but ultimately, they could do with being put through their own Superstar Carwash to wipe away the saccharine.
