It makes sense that Golden Teacher hail from Glasgow because their full length debut, No Luscious Life, is like that city’s inimitable Optimo club condensed into one excellent album: there’s house and electro here, of course, but also dubbed out post-punk, tribal drum workouts, nods to Mark Stewart’s Mafia and Mantronix.

Spiritron is a wonky electro-mystical-sci-fi-erotic-adventure, The Kazimier a washed out, sunrise paean to another great club and What Fresh Hell Is This? (extra marks for the Dorothy Parker reference) a deeply deranged melodica-driven FX fest.

The title track is a monster: eight minutes of psychedelic, percussive house, everything flanged to fuck and just the right amount of cowbell. No Luscious Life makes me wish I was back at Optimo.
