Goat – they of the fuzz-laden wigouts, mesmerising rhythms and live show of questionable taste – have clearly spent the last couple of years watching the panpipe band sketch from The Fast Show, if Requiem is anything to go by.

It’s one thing for the band to decide to chuck in a bit of folk and woodwind into their bitches brew of Afrobeat, disco and psychedelia, but in what might be the most notable musical own goal of the year, the entirety of their lengthy third album Requiem (yes, it’s a double) is drowned in piss-poor and self-parodic panpipes.

Shame, as when they shut up for a minute there’s some bewitching grooves on display, but the ratio alas swings far more towards aimless twaddle.
