Led by Malka Spigel of Minimal Compact and Colin Newman of Wire, the maddeningly titled Githead return with their fourth album of fluid, poetic post-punk Waiting For A Sign. Having always based their work around studio experimentation and collaboration, Waiting For A Sign takes things further, with all the material for the record deriving from three days of improvisation subsequently finessed and fixed into place. The emergent work however might be their most accessible and melodic work to date yet, tracks like Bringing The Sea To The City and Air Dancing matching eccentric dynamics and the deadpan, surreal poetry of Spigel and Newman’s lyrics to beautiful, shimmering guitar work akin to more recent Wire releases like Red Barked Tree.
