Gang of Youths return in pursuit of that twinkling, glistening melancholy that made previous releases so unique.

Where previously lauded for their acerbic poetry and sonic versatility, ranging from swelling synth passages to punching rhythms and crunching guitars, they were criticised for their obvious influences and bloated runtime.

These observations, both negative and positive, translate directly onto angel in realtime. With the sparkle of many tracks slowly flickering away, there would definitely be a way to streamline the album’s appeal and charm. As the bravado and swagger of the record’s first leg evaporates into a more stripped-back, poignant finale, the emotional highs and lows of the album’s stories are anchored by the array of instrumental themes texturing the record.
