Now on to their fourth album as a band and their second with Wade MacNeil on vocal duties, Desolation Sounds is a fearless sheer force of a record. Further cementing their status as a voice for the disaffected, Desolation Sounds builds upon their unbridled aggression and passion, blasting off with anthemic stomper Mystic Death with its fist-punching chorus and break-neck riffs. Desolation Sounds sees Gallows exploring darker territory than before, with a sense of menace and foreboding lurking in the background throughout, particularly on the ominous Chains with its opening female vocal echoing like a harbinger of doom, and Bonfire Season with its sinister 80s gothic vibe. Without a doubt their most ferocious, uncompromising effort to date.
