Island Records

Released: 09.04.21

With every album, Flyte evolve into a more refreshed and succinct incarnation of their tender and wistful indie folk vision.

This Is Really Going To Hurt opens at its most vulnerable, as Easy Tiger blossoms from its frail introduction to its tangible climax, feeling at once both communal and isolating. Airy harmonies mourn over simple instrumentation while the album’s timbre builds with sweeping and spacious soundscapes. Flyte’s routine of gentle beginnings and grand finales can feel repetitive and predictable as the album unfolds, yet the delicate and emotive lyricism provide a warmth that is nurtured across the release.

While This is Really Going To Hurt may find safety in their tested and successful formulas, the band are consistently sustained by the unpretentious sense of purity fuelling the release.
