Lee Hammond discovers an eclectic album from Flat Worms
God?
Released: 22.09.23
The welcome return of Flat Worms sees them in eclectic form. Witness Marks starts with heavy driving tracks, Sigalert and Time Warp In Exile, which at times feel pretty laboured. A trio of tracks in the middle of the record – Orion’s Belt, Gotta Know and Sick Of My Face – inject some life and shine through after a slow start.
This energy is short-lived though, the latter part of Witness Marks returns to its lacklustre feeling, the thudding basslines failing to enthuse. The title track conjures a glimmer of excitement, but it’s a little too late, and this return ultimately fails to ignite the brilliance of Flat Worms’ previous records, something of a disappointment from such an exceptional band.
