Since the beginning, folk ’n’ rock have beaten their chests, announcing themselves the music of the people and, whilst they of course championed the broken and beaten they were often not of or for them. So, what is? The dance floor!
Step forward Fatima Yamaha and his soundtrack to escapism. Channelling soul, funk and disco, he creates infectious EDM, celebrating the irony-less, politics-free joy of dancing in his favourite club and with giddy glee, he invites us in. Whilst mostly using beats and bops as his vocabulary, when he does give us words, they are genuine, uncomplicated and visceral. “The feeling’s coming back, I didn’t know that the sound of music could really do that and now we’re back in love, like the day we met.”
