Everything Everything’s sophomore record Arc was a brilliant progression away from the overly glittery and polished indie pop of their debut into often darker, more complex musical territory. Unfortunately, on Get To Heaven the band have regressed back into the poppier sheen of Man Alive. There’s nothing quite as edgy on the album as their previous effort (despite the first track being called To The Blade) and it’s only really on The Wheel (Is Turning Now) that there’s a glimpse of the more experimental and minimalist production that made Arc so compelling. It’s a shimmery and sunny effort, but one that’s dogged by a lack of light and shade and a seeming obsession with trying to make the perfect summer pop song.
