A lot of people might tell you how this sophomore effort from Evans The Death keeps their typical Pavement-esque fuzzy sounds and melancholic depictions of the difficulties growing up with no idea what you’re doing, and leave it there. To say so is doing a disservice to what is an exhilarating release. Expect Delays doesn’t just dissect the minutiae and malaise of growing up, the music itself is constantly being torn apart, tossed about and pasted back together. The lyrics might resonate with the more despairing elements of life, but the sound of four musicians so comfortable together, redefining themselves through their music, and able to be so bold and innovative with their craft, it’s really rather life affirming.
