In less than five years since their debut, Desperate Journalist have been quietly and industriously becoming one of the best indie rock bands in the UK, to the point that the appearance of their third album feels like A Big Deal. Accordingly, they’ve stepped it up.

It’s encapsulated by the album’s skyscraping opener Murmurations, and things never really let up from that point. Everything which made their previous work so good – from the power of Jo Bevan’s voice, to the brutally idyllic lyrical imagery, to the glorious reverb-soaked riffing – is even more powerful. Their last album in itself felt like a major leap forward, but it now seems that such abundant progress is business as usual for Desperate Journalist.
