Robin Webb discovers a relentless and brooding new release from the Toronto art rockers
Tin Angel Records
Released: 15.11.19
This is the second album this year from Toronto art rockers Deliluh. Frontman Kyle Knapp cites being strongly influenced by the late Mark E Smith, who passed during its recording. The music itself is not directly Fall sounding, other than the single Lickspittle: A Nut In The Paste; in fact the rest of the album very much stands its own ground.
Steeped in a relentless low off key intensity, brooding and alternative with sinister monochromatic spoken Iggy-like vocals, its droning post-punk eeriness perfectly reflects the subject matter, exploring ‘generational imbalance, self-affliction and inner conflict’. Catch the band in their live glory at The Tyne Bar in Newcastle on Monday 25th November.
