Das Koolies are Cian Ciaran, Guto Price, Huw Bunford and Dafydd Ieuan, aka the members of Super Furry Animals who aren’t Gruff Rhys. Making a record without the component of a group’s primary songwriter might seem like a fairly daunting affair, but Das Koolies as a concept has roots back to the 1990s, and although it shares some level of shared sensibility with SFA, it is really a different beast entirely. It leans completely into the penchant for more freeform electronic music that SFA had a penchant for but seldom let off the leash.

Cian and Bunford take vocal duties here, their voices are immediately recognisable from SFA records as well as their own musical derives Pale Blue Dots and Acid Casualties. At 15 songs, the record is a whopper in terms of consumption, and slightly one note in its execution, but anyone fond of close harmonies and melodic techno will find something to love here.
