Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, otherwise known as CMAT, has created a second album which seeks its inspiration from a break-up of a long term relationship. As a listener you go through the three stages of ‘this guy sucks’, ‘what have I done wrong with my life’ and finally the acceptance and ‘getting on with the rest of your life’. There is a degree of anger and passion, however lyrically this is an accessible album.

The storytelling through each track has influences ranging from country to Jim Steinman’s Meatloaf, however, musically it keeps its light and indie feel. There is even room for some fiddles on the final track, perhaps flagging up some Irish roots too. It helps an album that is full of musical hooks finish on a high.
