Chastity’s songwriter Brandon Williams has created some cathartic songs for the Whitby, Ontario outfit’s third long playing release. There is more than a passing reference to The Smashing Pumpkins, and these beautiful songs show how influential they were in the way many of the tracks are arranged.

This is an enjoyable album however, more than easy listening fodder for BBC Radio 2 listeners. The gentle, emotional songs are initially easy on the ear, but underneath each one lies some clever hooks and catchy lyrics. There is a darker side to this album too; Williams explores the potentially nightmarish existence of his own suburban life, and the futile need to find a sense of community within our society.
