It’s obvious that a guitar band aiming to be a bit different should come from the effervescent music scene in Glasgow. Catholic Action aren’t ones for producing safe or glossy indie music, but at the same time they have tried to seek the joy in it for sophomore album Celebrated by Strangers.

With hints of progressive 70s rock and synths, there is masses of atmosphere; political opinions are clear through infectious tunes; the punchy People Don’t Protest Enough calls out for anger and change; Sign Here is a huge dramatic thing of wonder, leading to Four Guitars (For Scottish Independence), which rounds off with a big, chanty finish. An accomplished record, with moments of brilliance.
