All things considered, Reward could’ve been a cookie-cutter replica of 2016’s divine Crab Day and I would’ve still happily given it full marks. However, Cate Le Bon is too gifted an artist to rest on her laurels like that. From the opening bars of the sparse and atmospheric Miami, it is clear we’re in a whole new territory, comfortably evolving on the pounding rhythms and slashing virtuosity of old, and whilst lead single Daylight Matters brilliantly evokes her past triumphs

Meanwhile, the taut atmospheres of the likes of Mother’s Mother’s Magazines and Meet The Man exhibit a majestic evolution in her voice, with a far deeper sense of introspection than before. All in all, another triumph from a true innovator.
