Not ones to shy away from drama or darkness, Boy Harsher’s second album Careful finds the duo ploughing deeper still into their primitive VHS aesthetic for forty three minutes of lo-fi, yet exquisitely atmospheric, coldwave that splits the difference between Nitzer Ebb and Asylum Party.

Dealing with familial trauma and loss, it’s perhaps not a surprise that Careful dials down the harder techno influence of previous tracks like Pain: while the likes of LA keep the BPM up, the core of the album lies in the more emotional songs such as centrepiece The Look You Gave (Jerry) and the creeping instrumental Crush. There’s a few growing pains to be found on Careful, but album highlight Tears suggests a way for the band to marry their intensity with greater melodic and lyrical maturity.
