Transgressive
Blaenavon have been kicking around since 2013 and after 4 years and 3 Eps, the three piece release their debut on Transgressive this month. Comparisons with labelmates Foals and Genghar are unavoidable but this a debut that saunters from festival indie-rock to mournful piano with a confidence that belies the youth of its creators.
It probably is a bit too close to the formula for crestfallen-indie that Keaton Henson et al have perfected to be brilliant in its own right, but there’s a phenomenal sense of control present, control that can only commanded when talented musicians craft an album with the time and care it needed. Here’s hoping it doesn’t take another four years for the next one.
